For Where Your Treasure Is

There will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21)

I'm so grateful for a righteous and amazing husband, who lifts me and makes me a better person.

Robby and I had planned to go to the temple last night, but we were suddenly presented with free ticketst to the U2 concert. I didn't want to pass up this opportunity until I had talked to Robby about it, so I texted him about the tickets and asked what he wanted to do.

We both decided that the temple was where we needed and wanted to be. And I'm so glad we made that choice. I really needed the temple last night.

I love going to the temple. I love the peace I feel in the temple and how it renews my soul. It's like, no matter how crazy life gets or how bombarded I feel by the outside world, when I'm in the temple it can't touch me. For 2 1/2 hours, I get total tranquility. I forget my stress and my I can turn my thoughts more to God and He comforts my troubled soul.

I'm so grateful for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm so grateful to my parents for raising me in the church. I'm so grateful that Robby and I got sealed for time and all eternity in the Temple of the Lord and that we can go back there as often as possible to feel the peace and comfort that you only find in the temple.

Fail

Some days just seem to hate me.

I was running late for work and rushed out the door, leaving the leftover Stir Fry I packed for my lunch out on the counter. Robby discovered it when he got home and had to throw it out. Fail.

I got home and didn't want to cook, so I had cereal for dinner and Robby had leftovers. Fail.

I took a shower and before it was over, I ran out of hot water so I had to rinse out my hair in freezing cold water. Fail.

I went to straighten my bangs after I got outta the shower but my flat-iron died. Fail.

I went to Wal-mart to get a flat-iron and a couple other things that we needed. I got to the checkout counter and realized I'd left my wallet at home. Fail.

I got home, and just felt grumpy and there was not time left to hang out with my husband. Fail.

I climbed into bed and realized that I had meant to put the fixing for a stew in the crockpot for dinner the next day. Fail. We're going to the temple right after I get off work today, so I wanted to have something good ready for dinner before the temple. So I climbed outta bed to go prep dinner, but then realized I didn't have any beef boullion. Massive fail.

I went to bed feeling worthless and defeated. I hoped a good night's sleep would help me the next morning, but it didn't. Fail.

I woke up still feeling worthless and like a failure as a wife. But I got up anyways and threw together some spaghetti for dinner. But this caused me to miss the five minutes I get in the morning to cuddle with Robby before he leaves for work. I love this time and missing it broke me. I cried as I made dinner and got ready for work. Fail.

Sometimes I wonder how Robby can love me and want me when I'm such a head-case and when I fail so miserably.

Awesome Date Night

Robby and I had a way awesome date night on Saturday. I wish I had more pictures that I could post, but I forgot my camera.

We started out at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and traded some duplicate wedding presents for some stuff we had been wanting: cookie dough scoop, ice cream spoons, and a spoon rest.

Next, we went to the mall. I wanted some new T-shirts, but then I realized how much I hate clothes shopping so I gave up. Instead, we went over to Love Sac and drooled over the comfy furniture. We really, really, really want a SACtional sofa but they're so darn expensive. But I think, if we can save up enough money, we're going to buy it.

Then we headed over to Momentum and did some rock climbing. I still haven't totally regained my stamina from having strep and mono, but I climbing a couple routes. The rest of the time, I belayed and watched my hot husband show off his incredible rock climbing skills. So impressive!
After that, we were good and hungry so we went to dinner at Pei Wei. Robby got fried rice and I got Pad Thai. So yummy!!! It was fun to have a night out.

But the fun doesn't end there. After dinner, we headed home and made some chocolate waffles. Can you say delicious!?! For our wedding, my Grandma Holcomb gave us this wicked cool double-sided waffle iron. Thanks Grandma! We use it constantly. Once the waffles were done and topped with whipped cream, we snuggled up on the couch and watched a movie.

Thanks Grandma. And thank you Robby. This weekend was awesome!!!

All My Little Plans and Schemes

My plan when I was 4:

  • Start dating when I was 10

  • Get swept off my feet by a handsome prince

  • Get married when I turned 16 (that's how it happens in Disney right?)

  • Have a baby girl to dress up in lacy, frilly dresses

  • Live happiliy ever after

What actually happened:

  • Graduated from high school

  • Started dating after I graduated high school

  • Started college

  • Graduated from college (still not married, the 4-year-old me was heartbroken)

  • Got a good job

  • Started dating my best friend (again)

  • Got married at age 24 to a farm boy (but he still swept me off my feet and treats me better than a princess)

I think I like what actually happened much better than what 4-year-old me planned.

What we'd like to happen in our future:

  • Get new jobs in Twin Falls, Idaho

  • Move to Twin this summer

  • Have Robby start nursing school this winter

  • Robby graduates in 2 years

  • Robby finds a good job soon after he graduates

  • We start a family

  • I quit my job when our first baby comes

  • In 3-5 years from now, we have enough saved up to buy a modest house with a big yard (just in time for baby #2)

  • We hopefully have somewhere between 4 and 6 kids and add on to our house to accomodate our growing family

  • Live happily ever after

Well, that's the plan at least. Now what will actually happen? Only Heavenly Father knows. But I know that he has a plan in store for me that is better than anything I could make happen by myself. So I'll trust in Him -- even through the hard times. Because His ways are better than my ways and His timing is better than my timing.

Worst Part of Getting Married...

Writing thank you notes. >:P What a pain! Literally. My hand is killing me and I had the worst neck and back ache last night from hunching over all the letters and addresses and lists. Woof! From now on, whenever I go to a wedding or bridal shower, I'm letting the bride know that she doesn't have to -- and in fact, is not allowed to -- write me any thank you notes.

Ok, I'm done ranting.

Best Part of Getting Married:

Going through the temple and recieving your endowment
Being sealed for time and all eternity to your best friend
Partying it up at the reception
Opening presents

Best Part of Being Married:

Hanging out with your best friend everyday
Sleeping next to your best friend every night
Waking up with your best friend every morning
Making sweet, sweet sandwiches
Having someone to cook for
Having someone to serve and get outside of yourself for
Having a constant support
Having someone to hope and dream with
Knowing there's no end to your relationship... no fear of a breakup
No more awkward first dates
Never feeling alone or unwanted
Knowing I'll never have to live with crazy roommates again
Getting kissed every day (and he is an amazing kisser)
Coming home to a clean kitchen (he's so good to me)
Everything!
I love being married!!!!!

A Whole Month!

Robby and I have been married a whole month now! How crazy is that?!? I love him so much. He's so wonderful to me -- even when I really don't derserve it. Like last night: We were laying in bed last night and I wasn't really tired so I was just talking to Robby as he was falling asleep. One minute everything was fine and we were haveing fun and the next I could feel myself getting sad and frustrated and angry. And out of nowhere I just started bawling. I had no reason -- absolutely no reason -- to have been acting this way and I felt ridiculous which only made me cry harder. Robby was so sweet and patient with me and I just felt like a jerk but I couldn't help it. No matter what I did, I couldn't stop crying. It took me an hour before I could control myself again. I just kept thinking: "What's wrong with me? This isn't normal! How can Robby love me when I'm such an idiot?" And this is like the 3rd time this has happened since we got married. What IS wrong with me? And yet he just held me until I could pull it together. I love him so much. I hope someday I can pull myself together. This is just a stab in the dark, but I'm betting it's the birth control. :(
